Dead calm. Drizzle. In the background, the Mull Regatta lies becalmed while, in the foreground, competitors in today's West Ardnamurchan Regatta event head for home.
It was so calm the boats were not moving due to any wind but were drifting in the tidal flow. The West Highland Series races were being curtailed and we abandoned the first race when it took Connor Campbell an hour to reach the first turn. For the second race we moved the two outer bouys much closer to the bay, hoping that the racers could make one complete circuit but the conditions were even worse for any kind of racing. At one point there was one helmsman reading a book, another was fishing (this is during the "race") and Connor was entertaining himself with a one man game of hide-and-seek on his 8ft dinghy. Let's hope for more wind tomorrow. Chris G (the poor bugger on the safety boat)
