Fundraising Walk for Kilchoan Playpark

After last weekend's very successful 15-mile hike to Fascadale, across the hills to Glendrian and home to Kilchoan, the walkers have now set their sights firmly on the West Highland Way.

Having lost the small playpark opposite Kilchoan Community Centre, the village needs to raise considerable funds to build a new one. These days, with so much concern about health & safety, good playparks don't come cheap, so this one will cost in the region of £80,000. One reason why the project is so special is that it will incorporate an area in memory of four-year old Caleb Cameron who was killed in a tragic accident back in September of last year.

The community has to raise 55% of the funds, the balance coming in the form of a grant. With several thousand pounds already collected, a big push is on to achieve the £44,000 by early summer, and the West Highland Way walkers are hoping to raise a considerable proportion of this sum - so they've been very active in the last few weeks looking for sponsorship for their 96-mile walk.

Pictured on one of their training exercises are, from left to right, Niall, Hughie*, Dave, Andrew, Scott, Bert, Jon and Billy the Dog, and Mark, with Duncan in front. Missing that day were Jordan (aged 11), Martin and Big Jim. * Note - Hughie is in charge of driving the van with all the tents, food and other equipment for the four overnight stops, so he is one person who had better not get lost.

You can support the lads here.
