Sounds of the Rut

I think this is the noisiest red deer rut ever, with stags calling all over the peninsula.

For those who don't know what the rut sounds like, we have the good fortune to have David Littler, a professional sound recordist, living amongst us. David has made a recording of stags roaring near the community garden - here. David and I have two questions of someone who knows about such things:

• how many stags are calling? and....
• what animal makes the barking sound?
