Local Postcards - 1

Many thanks indeed to Chris Gane who has allowed me to copy some of his enviable collection of old postcards and to put them on the Diary for readers' enjoyment.

The first is of Achnaha, seen from the northeast with the ridge of Beinn na h-Imeilte in the background.

This isn't taken from exactly the same angle, but many of the buildings in the postcard can be seen.

Almost as one would expect, Camas nan Geall seems timeless....

....when compared to this picture, taken from higher up this hill this summer.

This is the road leading down into Kilchoan with the Kilchoan Hotel slightly to the right of centre and Queen's Cottage to the right.  Behind Queen's Cottage is the Parish Church which, in those days, had a pyramidal roof on top of the tower.

Again, not quite the same angle, but this picture, taken the other day, shows almost the same view.

This is the Kilchoan Hotel seen from roughly where the Kilchoan Learning Centre now stands, and....

....this is a recent picture of the hotel.

  1. Lovely old pictures, please put up more! By coincidence, I was looking at some old ones of Fascadale today, I found while trawling the inter web.

  2. Ritchie Dinnes has an identical postcard of the hotel. It has a date on it: 8th August 1920.
