Mystery Froth

Can anyone explain this froth that's coming from the bark of a pine tree?  Is it in any way connected to the wet weather?  Thanks to Out&About for the picture.

  1. It's a crude 'soap'. During dry conditions dust containing salts ,acids, and other 'stuff 'settles on the bark. When it rains these elements start to run down the bark. They mix together and you get a foaming 'soap '

  2. Brilliant! Many thanks, Bruce, for solving that mystery. Now Out&About knows where he can go if he's short of soap. Jon
