Wheatears are a common sight on the grasslands of West Ardnamurchan - this one was photographed near Ardnamurchan Point lighthouse. They're one of the early arrivals as spring approaches, and they stay here for the summer breeding season, after which they migrate to Central Africa for the winter. This is a round trip of some 30,000 km which, for such a small bird, is quite remarkable.
