This photo was taken just before 11.00pm last night looking across Kilchoan Bay to Pier Road and Ben Hiant. A waning quarter moon had risen, and a small trawler, lit by a single light, lay at anchor in the bay.
The constellation of Orion is now above the horizon by about 10.00pm. Near it, the bright planet between the horns of Taurus is Jupiter. For anyone with a telescope or good binoculars, Jupiter is well worth looking at. In the middle of November, around the nights of the 16th and 17th, we have the Leonid meteor shower. More about this month's stars can be found at the Jodrell Bank site, here.
A few minutes before this picture was taken at 8.00am this morning, the trawler had left the bay and motored out into a blissfully calm Sound of Mull. After a clear night, a ground frost lay across the land, though the night's air temperature didn't drop below 2C.
