Kilchoan-on-Sea

A September walk along the banks of the twin lochans that lie in a valley to the north of Druim na Gearr Leacainn (map here) put us in mind of an earlier life in a resort town on the south coast of England.  The lochans have a pier....

....and a promenade along their shore.

 They have bays, beaches...,

....headlands - the hill behind is Stacan Dubh - sparkling blue water....

 ....and a boating lake.

They even have a war memorial, the cairn raised in memory of the New Zealand fighter pilot Fl/Lt Woodgate who crashed his Hurricane fighter into the cliff face in February 1944 - Diary accounts here and here.

The main difference is that, on a two-hour walk, we saw not another soul.

  1. I caught my first Ardnamurchan trout in one of those lochs about 16 years ago!
I love looking at these blogs everyday, we are up there in a couple of weeks, with the boys, and these keep me going.
    Thanks.
