These super pictures of pine martens come from Gordon Mullay of Kirkaldy, who was staying in Kilchoan during the last week of July.
Gordon writes, "My family and I were at Brian & Sheila Culcheth's Otter's Holt, and we had an incredible experience when two pine martens came right up to the living room window at about 4pm one day looking for food. I couldn't believe my luck seeing them in broad daylight, and just managed to get the camera out before they shot off."
While pine martens aren't uncommon on West Ardnamurchan, getting the chance to take such good pictures is unusual. A pine marten has been visiting The Dairy's house for the last couple of months, but always in twilight. We often know it's been around from the scats it leaves, and from the discomfiture of our two cats.
Many thanks to Gordon Mullay for the pictures.
Otter's Holt is available to rent, website here.
Four pine martens have been seen in Ormsaigbeg this week - no wonder our cats are worried!
