High Summer

It's another beautiful day today here in Kilchoan, 23C at midday with a warm, friendly breeze blowing out of the east - picture shows Mingary Castle below Ben Hiant, with a fair chop on the waters of the Sound of Mull.

It's a perfect day for mowing the lawn: this picture shows Trevor Potts on his motorised machine shaving the already immaculate grass on his campsite - see his website at Ardnamurchan Campsite.  With our ongoing good weather, the site has been busy over the last few weeks but, with the Scottish schools back, there are pitches available.

It's a day for the thistles to be spreading their down, each carrying a tiny seed for next year's crop.  In places, it's almost like standing in a snowstorm, there's so much of it blowing in the wind.

It's a fine day for the bees to be busy.  This little bumble bee was moving from one thistle flower to the next as he collected his pollen.

It's a wonderful day for the heather, which is coming into its best.  This bank of Bell Heather greets passengers disembarking at the Cal Mac pier - just look at the colour of that sky!

Sadly, such super weather cannot last forever.  At two in the afternoon the sky is beginning to cloud over, the wind is a little brisker, and the local forecast is for a strengthening breeze with rain by early evening.  But the forecast for tomorrow is....  more sunshine.
