A Winter Visitor to Achnaha

The Diary is very grateful to Stewart Pote at Achnaha for sending this lovely picture of a barnacle goose which has been keeping guard on his workshop for the last week.

Barnacle geese spend part of their winter on the west coast of Scotland before returning to Greenland in the spring to breed, but we see many fewer of them than the greylags, of which we have several hundred in the fields around Kilchoan.
