The School Says 'Thank You!'

Kilchoan School grew a pumpkin up at the Community Garden, which was ready in time for Halloween.

Here are two 'Thank you!' letters:

Dear Community Garden,

Thank you for our really BIG pumpkin! The pumpkin weighed 8 kilograms! We cut a lid off and started to scoop all the seeds and the insides out of the pumpkin. We are going to carve a face in the shell!

Wendy made really nice pumpkin soup from all the pulp and we had it for lunch. I bought a pumpkin out of Morrison’s and it was a quarter the size of the one in school! All the seeds went to Hannah and Innes for their gerbils….. they love pumpkin seeds!

Again thank you for the pumpkin! It’s going to look GREAT when his face is done!

Dear Community Garden,

Wow that pumpkin you gave us was HUGE! I don’t think you can get a bigger pumpkin than our one! Certainly not at Morrison’s! Anyway ours was huge! And it was a lovely orange colour too (and a bit green!).

Before we scooped out the insides, we all got to hold it and guess how much it weighed. After we all held it and guessed, we weighed it. It came to a whopping 8kg! We were all very impressed at the weight, and soon we began excavate our precious pumpkin. It was a very messy and smelly job but we persevered, and soon we had enough pulp to give to Wendy for her to make our soup.

We had one small problem, what should we do with the seeds? Luckily we found a solution. Gerbils love pumpkin seeds and Innes and I both have gerbils! So thank you very much for the pumpkin!
