Chrissy Retires

Just about everyone who comes to Kilchoan will know Chrissy MacLachlan. For those few of the Diary's readers who don't, Chrissy has, for over 20 years, run the Tourist Information Office in the village, at present situated in the Community Centre.

On Saturday, Chrissy retired, and the village gathered in the Centre's tea room to give her a well-deserved 'thank you' for all her years of cheerful, tireless service both to the community and to our many visitors.

The Diary first met Chrissy when the family was looking around Kilchoan for a business to run. At that time she operated out of an old caravan which was located in the car park opposite the Parish church. Despite the efforts of a gas fire, it was not a warm place, yet her cheerful encouragement motivated us to keep looking until we found the opportunity we needed.

Chrissy will be sorely missed at the Tourist Centre by both visitors and residents, but we all hope that she enjoys a long and happy retirement.

Many thanks to Jac Crosbie for the photographs.

  1. Jon, you are not the only family to have Chrissy to thank for their move here! She was the one who told mum and dad that the Natural History Centre was for sale - three months later, they moved in!

  2. The end of an era.....we have been holidaying in Ardnamurchan since we were a couple 1991 and Chrissie was in the "caravan". She is such a lovely helpful woman who has taken an interest in our enjoyment of our times in Kilchoan suggesting places to go and things to do and see. Now a family of four we still made a point of calling in to catch up with Chrissie. I remember her being very excited about attending the Royal Garden Party one year. We'll miss her in the community centre. Please pass on our best wishes.

  4. We remember Chrissy from Kilmory when we used to holiday there as children, a good 30 years ago! I now bring my little girl who loves it as much as we did. We'll miss saying hello, even if it is only once or twice a year. Have a long and happy retriement. Dave, Louise and Lydia Crampton, Scarborough.

  5. I recall the caravan from my first adult re-acqaintance with Kilchoan - probably about 1994 - and almost certainly being served that time by Chrissy. And then meeting her again in more recent years in the Community Centre.

Good luck for a healthy, happy retirement Chrissy!
