Frost

After a week of snow and gales which have included gusts of Force 9, severe storm, frost arrived under clear skies last night to carpet the early morning land with rime. Walking down to the jetty below the village shop, the frost lay thick across the machair....

....while greylag geese swam along an icy shore below the croft houses of Kilchoan township....

....and a mallard pirouetted on a sea of liquid gold.

The sun was quick to warm the land, driving the frost from the Ormsaigbeg shore....

.... and bringing comfort to a new lamb snuggling against his mother.

Despite the sudden drop in temperature, spring is everywhere, from the first daisy to the buds bursting on the rowan trees. This is a wonderful time in the Highlands, the capricious weather as much of a joy as the new growth, so it's good to see so many visitors in and around the village.
