Exciting Skies

 This morning's waning crescent moon is working its way round to....

....getting in the way of the morning sun in three days' time to give us an eclipse of the sun.  Meanwhile, the sun, far from watching on passively as the moon approaches, is....

....providing us with the possibility of a terrific aurora tonight.  This is the plot from the Willowbank Observatory's Auroral Magnetomer on Mull at 3pm this afternoon - link here.

As with everything in the sky, much is going to depend on the cloud cover.  At present, the forecast for Friday morning is poor, but the skies tonight might, just might be clear.
