Sue and Richard Doran are regular visitors to western Ardnamurchan and, as keen wildlife photographers, one can see why they come here. These pictures are from a week they spent here in the latter part of March.
The first is of a sea eagle pair which spent some time on a rock in
Camas Ban, the bay below the house where they were staying, before treating them to a magnificent aerial mating display.
One of the reasons they return year after year is that they have become familiar with the otters which live in the area. They watched this one in
Camas nan Geall, the next bay along from
Camas Ban.
The Ardnamurchan Estate boasts some of the finest red deer in Scotland, and in March the stags, now the rut is over and they're friends again, are gathering in groups, offering superb opportunities for pictures.
Coming up here in March might seem a bit of a gamble but it worked the Dorans. Snow on the hills coincided with some bright, sunny weather to offer magnificent landscapes. This is the Marine Harvest pontoon in
Port nam Marbh by the CalMac pier, with the
Talisker (right) and
Lagavullin tied up, Mingary Castle in the distance, and the peaks of
Beinn na h-Urchrach and Ben Hiant.
This picture was taken from
Dun Ban to the north of Sanna, looking across the bay to
Rubha Carrach and the Cat's Face, crouching under a cirrus sky.
