Many thanks to Kilchoan Early Bird and to Out & About for alerting me this morning to a pod of common dolphins in Kilchoan Bay. The Bird took this picture, soon after which....
....they moved westwards along the Ormsaigbeg shore, a little too far out for a good photograph.
About half past ten they, or another pod about the same size, were back, once again moving westwards along Ormsaigbeg, but this time with Staffa Tours' Islander following them. The people aboard must have had the trip of a lifetime as the dolphins were in a playful mood, several, including young ones, jumping out of the water.
As can be seen from the pictures, we've had a grey but beautifully calm day, ideal for watching dolphins and other cetaceans: there have been reports of minke whales off the north coast and, today, from Kilchoan Early Bird, who is the second person to report one in the Sound of Mull.
