A Song Thrush Tragedy

A song thrush lies in a beautifully built nest retrieved from a rhododendron bush in Kenneth Cameron's garden when Kenneth realised that the bird was dead.  He had last seen the thrush going in and out of the bush four days ago, so its death was recent.

When he carefully removed the bird, he found four eggs, one of which was broken.  To add to the mystery of its death, when....

....he turned the corpse over, he found a vicious wound, almost as if the bird had been stabbed.

It seems unlikely that it was killed on the nest, so perhaps it returned after it had been injured and died on its eggs.  We've recently witnessed thrushes fighting in the field next to our house.  The thrush is a relative of the robin, a bird renowned for its pugnacity.

Many thanks, Kenneth, for the story.
