West Ardnamurchan Show - Results

When the Diary visited the Show tent on Friday morning, judging was in full progress, but there was no-one there to watch - which wasn't surprising, as the day was fearsomely hot and the only tent which was busy was the one housing the drinks and burger stalls.  Nevertheless, organiser Pat Glenday (left) and judge Clare Holohan were hard at work in the stuffy heat, and they had a very difficult job on their hands.

There were a hundred entries for the twenty-two sections in the show, ten percent up on last year. The sections included Eggs, Gardening, Adult Baking, Children 7 and Under, and Children 8 and Over. Amongst the many winners were May McNicol for best baker in show, and best gardener was a tie between Stella Cash and Cheyenne Cameron. The prize for best ½ dozen eggs went to Bridget Cameron.

This beautiful chocolate cake with the crystallised pansies was made by Bonnie MacMillan, and Stephen French did the best adult decorated egg.

Pat Glenday commented, "The standards were very high, so it would be nice to have a few more wee cups for the baking next year.  If anybody wants to donate, please contact me."

On a rather different note, sincere apologies to Angus-John Cameron.  The Diary's attention has been drawn several times to the reference, in the report on the West Ardnamurchan Show & Sports here, to Angie's prizewinning gimmer as a "backface" sheep.  She is, of course, a brown sheep.
