The mink, probably a male from his size, was caught in a Fenn trap, a legal trap which resembles the illegal gin trap but which kills instantly. The trap is set in a tunnel, with bait against the far end and the trap itself below the soil surface and covered in leaves. But Tom isn't letting his guard down. The death of one mink simply opens an opportunity for another to move in.
Gorgeous creature. What a shame that they munch so many chickens.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous my bahookie! They are a extremely troublesome alien species that is devastating our real waterside bio diversity. No moorhens, no water voles, no nothing they can attack. It is such a pity that they have to be attacking human interests before anybody really does anything about them. Get rid ASAP.
ReplyDeleteHi just spotted this posting. Just to let you know we saw a mink yesterday 19/08/2013) at about 15.30 about half way between the village and the road junction to (Sanna?)
