A short, spectacular storm late yesterday afternoon brought lightening and deafening peals of thunder, enough to frighten both the human and local dog populations - border collies, of which there are quite a few round here, particularly hate this sort of weather. The main storm centre seemed to be to the east, but moved towards the south and settled over Morvern. The closest strike, which can't have been more than two or three miles away, knocked the electricity out. This was the second time we'd lost power during the day. The first time was a result of an electricity pylon falling down a couple of days ago, so the electricity board had to carry out urgent repairs. They managed to warn some people in the village, but for many the outage was unexpected.
We had some ten millimetres of rain overnight, most of it from the storm, the first real rain this year's lambs have seen. It's fairly obvious that they did not enjoy the experience.
