Wind Turbines Commissioned

From Trevor Potts:

Shetland Wind Power (SWP) were out recently to fit the monitoring equipment to the two turbines at the Community Centre. It has all taken a rather long time to get to this completion stage but, according to SWP, blame the Government for changing the goal posts regarding the 'feed in tariff'.

One of the turbines hadn't been working for a couple of weeks. This was fixed. A component located within the Community Centre had blown, probably from a lightning strike. This is good news, showing that the double insulation and earth grounding is working as there was no damage to the turbine.

The turbines have now been officially handed over, with a monitoring screen viewable in the Community Centre. SWP can also monitor performance remotely.

After some changes to the electrical heating system within the Centre, the three phase electricity produced by the turbines should save the Centre thousands of pounds a year.
