Kilchoan Playpark Fundraising Dance

The dance took place last Saturday. An extremely big "Thank You" must go to Norrie McIver, James McKenzie, Robert and Alan Nairn (The Peat Cutters Ceilidh Band) who kindly took time out from their busy schedule to play for free. The music was fantastic and the floor filled with enthusiastic dancers the whole night. It was great to see locals and visitors joining up to dance the traditional ‘strip the willow’ and the extremely exhausting Orcadian (Shetland) version.

A second big "Thank You" goes to all those who came out and made the night such a huge success. Well done to everyone who chipped in working at the door, the bar and of course the dreaded tidying up at the end. Rosie did a fabulous job as MC and spoke on behalf of Bert and myself. The raffle draw took some time to get through all the prizes, with a few lucky winners from Kilchoan, Mull and Acharacle.

The boys who walked the West Highland Way then took to the stage to take a bow for their efforts and received great applause. Marc Allan said a few words on their behalf and then presented Hughie with a trophy for Sherpa of the Year. Well done to him as they all agree, they couldn’t have completed the walk without him. Bert and I would like to thank the Kilchoan Fathers and Friends for joining us in raising the funds for the Playpark. Our gratitude goes to everyone who sponsored and encouraged them on the Way, and also to all those who so kindly contributed to the fabulous list of prizes in our raffle, which was organised by my sister Shona and her partner Scott.

It has been an extremely difficult time following the terrible accident that took our beautiful son Caleb from us, but the fundraising has given us a positive focus and hopefully there will be a Playpark, in the very near future, for all the children to enjoy. We are very fortunate to have such great friends and family and to live in such a nice community.

We estimate that the raffle and the dance raised over £5,000 and our total so far is over £23,000. Moran Taing!
